Evaluaiton on Serum Level of Ascorbic Acid in Korean Women with Normal Menstrual Cycle

Abstract
A considerable numbers of studies have been accumulated concerning the clinical and physiological significance of vitamin c.
Vitamin c is usually found in various tissue and body fluid, and at high level in adrenal glands.
Our present knowledge upon the role of vitamin c is postulated as the hydroon-carrier by reversible oxidation and reduction within body, and considered to play a role in formati9in of various enzymes, amino acid metabolism, production of adreno cortical hormones, and of collagen, transformation of folic acid into active form, pigmentation and so forth.
Mechanism of action of vitamin c is utterly complex one.
Since close relationship of vitamin c to sex steroid hormones as a. co-enzymes together with the fact of high content of vitamin c- in adrenal cortex have been known, evaluation of ascorbic acid in blood in accordance with various menstrual cycle has been carried out and the results are as follows;
1) Serum¢¥ level of ascorbic acid in Korean women with -.regular menstrual cycle is som hat lower than that of other workers in foreign countries.
2) There seems no corelationship maintained between age, length of. catamenial cycles and duration of flows to serum level of ascorbic acid in Korean women between 20 to 34 years of age.
3) Highest level of ascorbic acid is observed during the luteal phase, and the difference in the level of ascorbic acid during luteal phase compared to that of the same during the. follicular phase is considered significant statistically.
